This year's exciting programme of theatre comes to Stroud from September 11th to 13th with 30 companies and a wide range of shows. The brochures are available and tickets are ready for sale. So if you want lively family shows, comedies, thought provoking drama, new takes on classics or even to attend one of the new adult workshops pick up a copy. There are also previews taking place as part of Stroud Free Fringe on August 29th.
I'm often asked why put on a theatre festival - the answer is to celebrate theatre in all its forms, to allow new talent to have a platform and to share the rich tapestry that makes up the theatre landscape at an affordable price.

So, it's that time of year when thoughts turn to the Theatre festival and already we have been granted support from Stroud Arts festival, Sub Rooms, Open House, Lansdown Hall, The Imperial and The Alehouse. So all venues are in play and applications are now open from theatre companies and performers wherever they may come from.
Obviously we'll be posting to the wider world to let them know what's happening and how to apply. This is always the nervy time to as I wonder will it all work again and will we get the same quality that we've had over the last two years. We are looking for support from sponsors and advertisers to be included in the 7,000 brochures or even on this very website. So if you'd like to help the theatre festival then please email us for a rate card for our advert charges. Also we need volunteers for front of house and other work during the festival. Again if you are interested please email us at info@stroudtheatrefestival.co.uk More news to follow as we really start motoring. So the work has started to bring the second Stroud Theatre Festival to life. Currently we have 15 companies and performers booked and an exciting programme is coming together. We are looking for a few more so if you are a theatre company or performer with a show and wish to bring it to Stroud in September please get in touch.
We also have a new venue in Stroud which we are working on developing a regular programme of fringe theatre performances with performers able to stage shows for a 3 day run to help to build audiences. If you have a show which you would like to bring please contact us. Us is by the way: Spaniel in the Works Theatre company - email - info@spanielworks.co.uk Thanks very much and look forward to hearing from you We now have over 2,000 brochures out and about in the county with more to follow for events such as the Fringe Music Festival in a couple of weeks and we've been very kindly given a shop window courtesy of Open House which is great and means that even more people will find out about the Festival.
Whenever you do something for the first time there's always glitches and I seem to be running into technology glitches all over the place. The latest one that a listing site decided it didn't like me copying text into it and would publish all the computer code which was (unbeknownst to me) included in the original document. So everything had to be re-input. On the re-input I realised though that we do have a great programme of theatre with something for everyone. I'm expecting the next couple of weeks to pick up even more pace as this little ball which I started rolling a few motnhs ago turns into a giant snowball rolling down towards the 6th and 7th of September. Exciting, and a little bit, nervy times!! ....then it does. So after working out when we needed the brochure by and how much we had to spend I contacted various printers for best quotes - as you do. Only to find that the one I wanted had gone bust!!! So instead another was all lined up and then Paypal messed up with some weird echeque thing - again this has now been sorted but it all takes time and puts you back. The brochure will be out next week - hurrah!! But if you can't wait that long click on the link on the site for a pdf copy.
Everything else seems to be ticking over nicely....just need a few more volunteers to help us - so if you'd like to be an usher or even trainee lighting technician for the day the please email us. Thanks. So after much sweating over bits of paper and something similar to the "How do you get a chicken, a fox and a bag of corn across a river riddle" exercise. The programme for the festival is now up on the website. I have no doubt that there will be changes to it. One thing I have noticed is that we may need a couple of extra matinee shows in response to a recent tweet. Will look into this and amend/add shows accordingly. I hope you'll agree that this looks like a great line up of diverse shows with something for everyone.
Officially today was the day when the deadline has passed, so there can be no more submissions to be part of the First Stroud Theatre Festival. We have now a wide and varied programme of performances which will be sorted and posted up on the website in their entireity with pictures and links wherever possible.
So we have shows, we have venues and we will start preliminary press and publicity within the next week. Watch this space to see what happens!! I'm excited (but also a little bit nervous!!) |
